Hello!

I am so excited to be able to write my first blog for Re:generation Harrow! Thanks for having me.

I guess I should start with telling you a little bit about me? My name is Becky, I am 31 years young and I am originally from Chester in the North West of England. My mum and dad, younger brother and I attended Waverton Evangelical church and this is where I first became a Christian and was actively involved in the life of the church, the local community and global mission.

I have many fond memories of growing up being part of a church with all the extended ‘family’ that it brings. From an early age I LOVED working with kids. I was often the oldest at church events and family occasions, so this led to me bossing around all the younger kids. As a teenager I volunteered regularly at different ministry events for children such as Sunday school, midweek clubs, annual holiday clubs and mission trips to Romania and Ethiopia.

It seemed a natural decision for me to head to university to study Primary Education with a specialism in Art & Design at the University of Cumbria in Lancaster.

My first teaching job was at a C of E school in Cheshire, I taught Year 4 for 2 years and then was moved to be the Reception teacher. It seemed like a big leap, and it was. I loved it but found it really challenging.

After 4 years of teaching and feeling inspired by my brother, who had just come home from 6 months of travelling, I decided that I wanted to see more of the world. But I wanted to do it with a purpose, I wanted to do it for God, wherever he would send me.

An opportunity came to serve at an international school for missionary children in Arusha, Tanzania. I spent 2 years there as the Pre-School teacher and I also taught Art lessons across the rest of the school. I absolutely loved my time in Tanzania, I met some of my closest friends there and will always cherish the memories and experiences I had.

God then called me back to the UK and I have spent the last 3 years working in South Croydon as a Children’s Ministry Coordinator at Emmanuel, a C of E church. I absolutely loved my time there and got to work with some fantastic children, an amazing staff team and congregation.

Leaving my last job was hard but I really clearly felt the call to my new role at re:generation Harrow. The School Worker Coordinator role allows me to combine my skills, knowledge and experience from my last 2 jobs to serve the school and church communities across Harrow.

I am excited to build relationships with both schools and churches in order to support them through this time and share with them the good news of Jesus. Lockdown has been hard on all of us, for me as a Christian, knowing that God has been there with me the whole time and that he will never leave me, offers me hope and I pray that this will be something that others will come to realise too through the work of re:generation.

In my 2 short weeks at re:generation (I started on the 1st September), I have already seen God answer prayers. Although much of our work is online at the moment, schools are opening their ‘virtual’ doors to us and allowing us to create assemblies, based on stories from the Bible, for them to share across their classrooms.

We are also in contact with many churches and are in the process of setting up meetings to discuss how we can be supporting them during this unusual time.

God is at work in Harrow and I am so excited to see what the future holds for re:generation and I am so blessed to be able to be a part of it.
